Jaylyn's Position
Protect Rights. Reduce Preventable Deaths.
The vast majority of gun owners are responsible citizens who keep firearms for home defense, hunting, and sport. Jaylyn's policy targets the specific gaps that allow firearms to reach people who should not have them — without penalizing law-abiding owners.
- 1Requires comprehensive background checks on all gun purchases. Current law has a documented loophole for private sales and gun shows that allows buyers to circumvent the federal background check system entirely.
- 2Blocks firearm access for individuals with severe mental illnesses. People who have been adjudicated as a danger to themselves or others should not have access to firearms. This position is supported by a broad majority of Americans across party lines.
- 3Restricts machine-gun-style rifles that are not suited for ethical hunting or personal defense. Semi-automatic rifles modified to fire at high rates are designed for combat, not civilian use. Their restriction does not affect traditional hunting or home defense firearms.
- 4Protects the rights of citizens to own firearms for personal defense. The Second Amendment is a constitutional right. Jaylyn's position is targeted and specific — it does not seek broad bans on handguns or standard hunting rifles.
